Why am I prompted for a user name and password when attempting to connect to one of the online databases / online resources?

This problem can be fixed by clearing the cache on the internet browser. On Internet Explorer, this is on the "Tools" menu, and it is the first option, "Delete browsing history." Please delete history, cache and cookies. Close and reopen the browser, and connect again.

Why am I still prompted for a user name and
password when using the Reference USA database?

If you are using the Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 (XP) browser and are receiving a username/password prompt when attempting to access ReferenceUSA.com remotely, you may need to modify your default browser cookie handling configuration settings to resolve this issue.

Follow these steps:

1. Open a new Microsoft Internet Explorer browser session.
2. Click on the Tools drop-down menu and select Internet Options
3. When the Internet Options window appears click on the Privacy tab,
then the Advanced button.
4. When the Advanced Privacy Settings window appears, place a check in
the checkbox next to 'Override automatic cookie handling'.
5. Click OK on the Advanced Privacy Settings window and the Internet Options
window to close.

Additional help and troubleshooting information are available on the ReferenceUSA web site. Click the link "Which Internet browser is the best to use, and what setting will I need to access ReferenceUSA?" There are also other useful FAQs.
